On the Lantern Festival in 2024, CGTN's special program Lantern Lights: A Cultural Celebration, hosted by Michael Wang and Louisa Lee, connected with me and my colleague Ma Jing in Beijing to share the festive scenery of Xi'an with global audience. We together experienced the local customs and explored the charm of Chinese traditional culture.

Enjoying Lantern shows and eating Yuanxiao, or the sweet dumplings, are traditional customs of China's Lantern Festival. Now, let's follow the journalist He Xiaofan to experience the lantern show in Daming Palace National Heritage Park, and taste Yuanxiao at a century-old restaurant in Xi'an.

The children, singing poet songs like Happy Rain on a Spring Night, On the Frontier, and The Pond, presented ancient poetry to the people of Malaysia and visitors from around the world to let them experience the beauty of Chinese classical poetry and culture.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, and it is also the 25th anniversary of the Penang Temple Fair, an iconic New Year event in Penang of Malaysia. On the ninth day of the first lunar month, the Fair was grandly held in George Town, attracting around 200,000 participants. Invited by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), the Little Water Drops Choir from Xi'an Houzaimen Primary School, as the only performing group from China, participated in the 2024 Penang Temple Fair, adding vibrant color to the celebration of the strong and enduring friendship between China and Malaysia.

The dynamic live performance Camel Bell Legend, centered around the BRI, extensively explores the traditional Tang Dynasty culture. It delves into the traces of the camel caravan along the Silk Road, conveying the positive energy of Xi'an in its most glorious historical period.

During the Spring Festival, a total of 17 key performances, including the Song of Everlasting Regret in the winter, Xi'an Eternal Love, and Camel Bell Legend, were staged for a total of 1377 times with the box office of over a hundred million yuan. Due to the high viewing demand, the Song of Everlasting Regret in the winter had four shows a day, all sold out. With a total of 32 performances, it attracted 95,200 visitors.

Brand of "Xi'an Performance" Earns a Reputation

From the new year's eve to the 15th day of the first lunar month, Shaanxi Opera House, Xi'an Concert Hall, Kaiyuan Theater, and Xi'an Performing Arts presented a series of excellent and highly distinctive shows to welcome the new year. More than 40 shows encompassing various art forms such as singing, dancing, traditional Chinese opera, and music have been well received by the audience. In addition to Qinqiang opera and dance dramas, a variety of concerts delighted everyone's ears. The Chang An Yue Music Hall, the Creative Cultural Center Garage LIVE, and the XABC Theater staged classical world music and music from romantic films, renowned TV series and animations.
